Your first receipt, start to finish

Add a receipt, check it, approve it and export it in five steps.

1. Add the receipt

  1. Open Receipts and press Add receipt. On a phone, press Take photo; on a computer, drag the file in or press Choose files.

  2. Press Add. The receipt joins the list straight away. On Business and Enterprise you can also forward receipts by email; see Forward receipts by email.

2. Let SlipInbox read it

While SlipInbox reads the receipt it shows Processing. The merchant, date, total and other fields fill in on their own, usually within a minute. Then the status changes to one of these:

ReadyNeeds review

Ready means it was read with no doubts. Needs review means something needs a second look first. See Receipt statuses explained.

3. Check it

Open the receipt from the list. Compare the fields with the photo of the receipt. Correct anything that is wrong and choose a category; see Edit a receipt.

A receipt that needs review says why under Check this receipt. Once the fields are right, press Mark checked. See Why a receipt needs review.

4. Approve it

On a Ready receipt, press Approve. If it shouldn’t be paid, press Reject instead; a rejected receipt never goes out in an export.

ApproveReject

See Approve, reject and reopen. With many receipts, The review queue and keyboard shortcuts takes you through them one after another.

5. Export it

On Receipts, press Export. Under Approved, not yet exported, choose CSV file or Excel file. The file downloads, and each receipt in it is marked exported.

CSV fileExcel file

Import the file into your accounting software, or hand it to your accountant. See Export to CSV or Excel.

Employees only do the first step: they add receipts and follow them on Receipts. An admin or accountant checks, approves and exports them.
