What SlipInbox reads from a receipt
Every receipt gets the fields an expense report asks for. Where the slip prints more, SlipInbox keeps more.
- Merchant name, plus the legal name, address, phone and tax ID when printed
- Date and time
- Subtotal, VAT and VAT rate, discount, tip and total
- Currency, from the symbol, the code or the country the slip comes from
- Receipt or invoice number, and the last four digits of the card used
- Line items with quantity, unit price and amount
- The web address in a QR code, such as a tax authority's invoice check
Scan with your phone
SlipInbox runs in the phone's browser and installs to the home screen like an app. Press Add receipt, then Take photo, and shoot up to 10 receipts in a row before adding them.
Before saving, SlipInbox checks each photo for blur, darkness, glare and low resolution. A warning shows on the picture with a Retake button, so a bad shot gets replaced while the slip is still in your hand.
On Android, SlipInbox also appears in the Share menu. Share photos or PDFs from your gallery or email straight into the workspace.
Staff without a SlipInbox account send the photo to SlipInbox's WhatsApp number instead, on the Business and Enterprise plans. Each photo gets one reply once read, with the merchant, date and total, or a request for a clearer photo.
On every plan, staff without an account also scan your QR code poster with the phone camera. The upload page opens in the browser, they pick their name, and the photo goes straight to your list.
PDFs and emailed receipts
Online orders, utility bills and supplier invoices tend to arrive as PDFs. Upload them, or, on the Business and Enterprise plans, forward the email to your organization's address and SlipInbox picks up the attachment. A PDF of up to 15 pages counts as one receipt.
Order confirmations with no attachment work too. SlipInbox reads the receipt from the email text.
Doubtful reads get flagged, not guessed
A faded total or a smudged date never slips through quietly. SlipInbox marks the receipt Needs review, highlights the shaky field and says what looked wrong in plain words.
- The total, merchant or date was hard to read
- Subtotal, VAT, discount and tip fail to add up to the total
- The slip shows no currency and comes from another country
- The same photo, the same receipt number, or the same merchant, date and total already sits in your list
- The total is far from what this merchant usually charges
Read your own fields too
On the Business and Enterprise plans, add custom fields such as a project code, a cost center or a vehicle registration. Describe where the value sits on the receipt, paste one real example, and SlipInbox looks for the field on every receipt from then on.
Questions
Does SlipInbox read handwritten receipts?
Printed slips read best. Handwritten amounts often land in Needs review, with the photo beside the fields so you type in what the reader missed.
What about faded thermal paper?
Thermal slips fade within months. Photograph them on the day you get them, while the print is dark. SlipInbox keeps the photo, so the record outlives the paper.
Is there an app to download?
No download from an app store. Open SlipInbox in your phone's browser and add the site to your home screen. The site then opens full screen under its own icon.
Which currencies does SlipInbox recognise?
Any currency printed on the slip. A receipt with no currency takes your organization's receipt currency, flagged for review when the slip points to another country.
