Merchants and their branches
Every spelling of a shop belongs to one merchant. Merge the ones that are the same.

What a merchant is
A merchant is a shop or supplier you buy from. The same shop is often printed in different ways, such as “SHOPRITE LUSAKA” on one slip and “Shoprite Holdings” on another. Every spelling read from a slip belongs to one merchant, so reports and exports count the shop once.
You don’t add merchants yourself. SlipInbox creates them as it reads receipts and recognizes the same shop again by its spelling and tax ID. Admins and accountants find them under SettingsMerchants, where you can search by name, spelling or tax ID.
Merge merchants that are the same
When two merchants look like the same shop, they appear at the top of the list under Might be the same shop, with how many receipts each has.
Press Merge… beside the pair.
Check the names in Merge merchants, then confirm. The one with fewer receipts goes away; its receipts, spellings and locations move to the other.
To merge a merchant that isn’t suggested, open it, press Merge into another merchant… at the foot of the drawer, and choose the merchant to keep under Merge into.
Change a merchant
Open a merchant from the list to edit it in a drawer, or press Open merchant page for its full page. The page shows its Details, its Branches, how much you spent there over time, and its latest Receipts. Press Edit on the page to change it.
- Name is the name lists, reports and exports show.
- Category is the default category. Its new receipts get this category. Choosing a category on one of its receipts sets it too; see Categories.
- Legal name, Tax ID, Website, Email and Notes describe the business. Slips that print this tax ID belong to this merchant.
Press Save when you are done.
Branches
A merchant with several branches gets a location for each. SlipInbox adds them from the address and phone printed on its slips. In the merchant’s drawer, under Locations, press Edit beside one to change:
- Name, Address and Phone.
- Tax ID of its own, for a franchise with its own tax number. Leave it blank to use the merchant’s.
Merge… joins two locations that are the same branch; this cannot be undone. Remove deletes a location: its receipts keep the merchant, and a later slip from it adds it again.
